The Maned Wolf
Is it a lion ? Is it a wolf ?
The Maned Wolf lives in Central South America on the grasslands and savannahs. It is an omnivore, which means it eats both plants and meat. It got its name from the thick, dark mane down its back. Yet, it is not a true wolf.
They travel alone, unless mating. To help hunt, they wiggle and sniff a lot. The Maned Wolf looks like a fox on stilts. They have 2 to 5 young. When the pups play, they charge full speed at each other, then leap.
The Maned Wolf is endangered because of humans cutting or burning down its habitat.
